Info

The hook fastener was a type of sash fastener occasionally seen in late nineteenth century houses. Its design used a swinging arm attached in the center, with one end operated by a knob and one end that engaged the hook. The hook fastener was patented by George McGregor and George Voll of Cincinnati, Ohio in 1869 (patent #88318).

The hook fastener was in occasional production in the late nineteenth century. It first appears in a hardware catalog in 1884 (Hammacher, page 87) and last appeared in the Russell and Erwin catalog in 1899. Throughout its production, hardware catalogs included both decorated and plain versions of the hook fastener.
